Patrick Berlouis

Trustee

Patrick’s first experience of serious conservation work was during his various stints as Relief Manager on Cousine island where the staff were engaged in the rehabilitation of the island’s vegetation and the development of a rigorous monitoring programme for marine and terrestrial wildlife.

Later, as Chairman of IDC, he showed a keen interest in the work of ICS on various islands (especially Desroches and Farquhar) and he was a member of the team that carried out the population survey of Sooty Terns on Desnoeufs in June 2021. A stunningly remarkable experience. He strongly advocates a significant reduction in, and eventual banning of, the use of FADS by purse seiners having seen their effect on the reefs and shores of the Outer Islands. He would like to see more serious penalties for turtle poaching as the situation is sliding in the wrong direction on this.
