The second aim is to gather information of the birds foraging locations out at sea, to do this small 40 GPS loggers will be deployed on adult birds. This information is critical for marine spatial planning as it could reveal previously unknown marine hotspots which deserve regulating.
Last but not least, genetic analysis of blood samples will help determine where the influx of 'new' birds have come from. The results from Farquhar will be cross referenced against other samples collected in the region to identify migrations between islands across the south west Indian ocean.
Thank you to the Islands Development Company and the Farquhar Foundation for their unwavering support towards this project.
